My name is Brian Baumal, and I'm a psychotherapist working in Toronto.
I hope that there may be a small twinge of excitement as you look through this website and realize that it is possible to make substantial changes in your life. Feel free to read below, or click a video link on the left to see some interviews about how I practice therapy and about the pitfalls of getting self-help advice from social media.
People who seek psychotherapy fall into one of three groups, all of whom recognize that living a fulfilling life can be a challenge. Specifically, people looking into therapy are:
1) Those seeking help with psychological conditions like social phobia, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, mood swings, past trauma including PTSD, stress, addictions and anger.
2) People who incur a life change like sudden grief, divorce, family, job or financial stress, being diagnosed with a chronic illness or infertility.
3) Those wishing general self-improvement to change their relationships, their outlook, set priorities, become more relaxed, have greater acceptance of themselves and others and the ability to live more directly, spontaneously and harmoniously.
Regardless of which group you are in, people who seek psychotherapy have a strong desire to change. They may have a particular vision of how their life should be, or the specific problem they want to change. The good news is that change is possible.
